Introduction...
Dear
Friend/Colleague:
With
more than 3,000 members, the Society
for Intercultural Education, Training and Research
is the world's largest interdisciplinary network for students and professionals
working in the field of intercultural communication.
The
main purpose of SIETAR
is to encourage and support the development and application of values,
knowledge and skills that promote and reinforce beneficial and long-lasting
intercultural and inter-ethnic relations at the individual, group, organization
and community levels.
SIETAR
Chapters are a point of connection for people from many cultural and professional
backgrounds who…
-
work
to expand worldviews and build skills for successful interactions in intercultural
arenas;
-
continually
search for and provide avenues to effective relations across cultures;
-
and
engage in research related to cultural dimensions between and among individuals,
organizations and political entities.
These
activities take place in multicultural or cross-cultural settings within
national borders or around the world.
We
envision the development of SIETAR in Alberta,
in collaboration with its members from rural and urban Alberta, to provide
opportunities through: symposia, conferences, networking, education, training,
research, tools and resources.
We
believe that we must all work toward effective and peaceful relations among
the peoples of the world, not despite differences but because of them.
It is a collective work that requires the efforts of many caring and concerned
individuals who support each other in moving purposefully toward this common
goal. We invite you to become a part of SIETAR
in Alberta.
